Frequently Asked Questions regarding Laser Lipolysis

What will happen at my appointment?

After completing the pre-screening questionnaire and ensuring that you are suitable for treatment, the area that you wish to have treated will be measured. A maximum of eight diode-laser paddles will be placed on the skin above the area and elasticated straps are used to hold the paddles in place. Two smaller probe laser paddles are placed over the adjacent lymphatic glands to stimulate their activity. Please make sure you are wearing suitable clothing that enables access to the treatment areas. The machine will be turned on for 10 minutes, as this is the maximum amount of time the process is effective for in any singular position (see images in the Science section). The paddles will then be relocated after 10 minutes to the adjacent area and relocated again at 20 and 30 minutes (if possible) to enable us to target the largest area possible. The treated area can be measured after each individual session if you wish, however, sometimes the inch loss is not visible until the lymphatic system has had the chance to transport the fatty waste away from the treatment site (aided by the exercise session).

How long does it take?

The total treatment time is between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on the size of area to be treated, although please allow 45 to 60 minutes to include time for positioning the paddles, getting comfortable and taking the measurements!

Do I need to do anything afterwards?

You will be required to do at least 20-40 minutes of cardiovascular exercise within 12 hours of each treatment, to ensure the newly-released fat does not lay itself back down in the body.

If you wish, for a fee of £1 per session, you will be able to purchase a voucher entitling you to use your choice of either a treadmill, cross trainer, bike or rowing machine for 30 minutes within the Fitness Suite at Budmouth Sports Centre – which is a few minutes walk away from the treatment room. This voucher is valid for use at any time within 12 hours of the treatment, subject to certain availability restrictions within the Fitness Suite during school hours.

How can I get the best results from this?

For optimum results, some type of light activity is recommended, as a minimum, within the first couple of hours after treatment (walking is acceptable). Drinking plenty of water (squash is an acceptable substitute) will also help the transit of the fatty liquids through the lymphatic and venous systems. A further period of more intense CV activity, between 2 and 12 hours later, will burn off the remaining fat and help the body to continue to burn off the extra energy and fat for another 72 hours.
Avoid alcohol for 12 hours before or after each treatment. This is because not only does alcohol contain a lot of unnecessary calories, it also actively prevents your body from metabolising fat for several hours, so you won’t be able to burn off the fat this procedure releases! It is advisable to avoid caffeine for as long as possible too, as this also affects metabolism of fat.

Avoid eating a large meal before or after each treatment – your body will use the easiest source of energy available to burn for the cardio-vascular exercise and our preference is for your body to burn the newly released fat for energy, rather than your food.
If you combine this treatment with a low fat, nutritious diet and plenty of exercise, you should achieve fantastic results.

Is this treatment safe, does it hurt and what areas can I do?

The procedure is safe, quick, painless, discreet and relaxing. No sensations will be felt, other than a gentle warmth under the paddles whilst you are being treated.

Most parts of your body can be treated up to the jaw bone, apart from women’s breasts. The most popular treatment areas include abdomen, hips, chin and neck, buttocks, arms, upper and lower back, inner and outer thighs.

How long do treatments take, how long do the effects last and do I need to exercise or diet?

The treatment times vary depending on the area to be treated, but usually a treatment will take between 20 and 40 minutes.
If sensible eating and exercise regimes are adhered to, the treated area will retain its new shape indefinitely. You do not need to diet, as long as your calorific intake is at an acceptable level for the weight levels you are trying to achieve or maintain.
You must exercise initially within 12 hours for the treatment to be fully successful and, although it is not essential in order to maintain the effects, a regular exercise plan is recommended to benefit general health and mental well-being.

How often should I have treatments and how many can I have?

A gap of a minimum of 48–72 hours between treatments is required. This is to enable the body sufficient time to burn off the fatty waste. A course of 8 treatments is the average required, in order to see the most effective results. The amount of treatments required is dependent on the size of the area to be treated and will require individual assessment on your first appointment. The effects are permanent as long as your diet and fitness remain stable, so repeat treatments are not necessary. However, maintenance treatments can be performed if desired to counteract those little extravagances that we often succumb to. Once a month is usually sufficient for this.

Who is suitable for treatment?

Laser Lipolysis is equally suitable for men and women, of all sizes, ages and fitness levels.
There are a few contra-indications (listed below) but generally if you are over 18 and healthy, you are suitable for treatment.

If you suffer from any of the following conditions, you will not be able to be treated with laser lipolysis without written consent from your Doctor or Specialist:
